Hey Fitness Warrirors!
It is hard to believe it March 11, 2011. Time seems to fly faster and faster the older I get.
I want to share with you guy the in and outs of my life as a father, fitness professional and Team Beachbody coach. So, I am going to offer you my month in review.
I had the opportunity to travel to Ohio to visit my sister Heather and meet Shaun T, the creator of the INSAINTY program. This experience was very significant for me in that only 12-15 months ago Heather was nearly 100lbs heavier than she is today. This marked the first time that we got to workout together since she lost so much weight. I remember back in 2006 I did everything I could to take a stand for her and help her see the possibility of her becoming healthy. I struggled to meet here where she was. I really pissed her off. However, I didn’t give up.
I would apply little nudges and sometimes outright kicks in the ass from time to time for the next few years. Something finally stuck. She says that she felt the importance of becoming a good role model for her two kids. At the rate she was going at 268 lbs life was going to get tougher and tougher as she raised her kids. She knew her kids would pick up her habits and behaviors too. Heather is now a true fitness professional and Zumba instructor. She bought the P90X program and starter getting Shakeology in her body this month. She is still ramping up to conquer P90X. I can’t wait for her to jump in. She really admires some of her “cut” girl friends. Little does she know that this “cut” is exactly what it waiting for her behind the door of P90X, 90 days down the road. I love you Heather. Thanks for trusting me.
As for the Ohio Shaun T experience… I was struggling with a cold this day and decided after the warm up I’d be doing myself a disservice to push to the INSANE level that was about to erupt. I surrendered and decided to be smart and take care of myself instead of proving how tough I could be. I was greatly inspired by the event. I got to meet Tommy Migrant and Joshua Spencer two of the top Coaches in Team Beachbody. I had the pleasure of working with Tommy in a 60 day accountability group based on conference calls. It was a real pleasure to get to know him and share openly about relationships and engaging in a purpose driven life.
I also came away from the Shaun T experience with a commitment to build more muscle mass. That man’s body is AMAZING! I have been reluctant to feed my muscle to the degree I know I must to build in a significant way. I don’t like being above 10-11% body fat. My muscle gains have been very slow. I took my calorie intake to 3500 calories. I have put on 8 lbs of muscle in the last 4 months (about 2 lbs muscle per month and one pound of fat) as a result. I am currently 182 and 12.3% body fat. I am going to let me self get to 15% body fat before cutting back down to 8%. I’ll likely keep on this plan for another 3 months taking myself to 195+-. Once I shed the extra body fat I’ll be left with several lbs of lean muscle. Thanks Shaun for the inspiration.
Love was in the air for many in February… Valentines Day and all. For me, Valentines Day morning marked the end of a relationship for me. That is all I have to say about that. It is interesting what we learn from all our relationships. Here is to us learning our lessons fast and easy with as little pain as possible.
My daughter Zoe and I went roller skating a few weeks ago. She taught me a lesson about learning to love falling down, making a game of it and getting right back up. Awesome wisdom form a three year old.
My roommate Thomas started P90X 12 days ago. He is rocking it. In just one week he went from a max of 12 pushups to 22 at the beginning of this week. Amazing! He is so excited about the changes occurring in his body.
I saw the movie Rango. Very forgettable, as my friend Linda put it. I love Johnny Depp; however, this was not his best work. I want to see the Adjustment Bureau. That looks like my kind of film
I launched a monthly body fat challenge with a monthly prize pot and a weekly free fit club in my city.
I completed a group wellness plan for companies and organizations that want a healthier population.
I am looking forward to cleaning and starting up my VERY green alge infested swimming pool.
Here is to a great March.
My best, Joshua

Josh, it is great to see that you are still doing what you love and that you are able to inspire so many people. As one who has benefited from your enthusiasm I know that you don't let anything keep you from your goals -- or others from theirs! Have a lovely day!
